Setting up the Backgammon Board

A backgammon board has twenty-four points. A point is a long triangles poking toward the center of the board. Based on the point's place, it is given a number. The first point for the white player is the one in the far right, relevant to his iner board. The black player starts counting from the first point in his far left.

When game starts, each player places 15 checkers on the board.

  • Five checkers are placed on point numer six
  • 3 are placed on point 8
  • Another five checkers are are placed on point number 13
  • 2 are placed on point 24

Those starting positions evolved during the ages that backgammon was played. The advanced position of the pieces makes for a competitive game, though not an elongated one that would occur if both sides began with all pieces on the bar. Note that neither player begins with a blot (a checker by its self on a point), and no roll need leave a currently held point as a blot.

The fact that the doubling cube is set on sixty-four actually indicates a zero. The players are give a dice cup and two dice.

Now we are ready to play backgammon.
