In recent years, especially with the increase in popularity of online backgammon, it's important to decide if backgammon is a game of skill or of chance. Now for legal isues.? Certain court cases in past gambling history have declared that backgammon is a game of skill and have thus saved casino operators from being prosecuted for dealing in wagering transactions over a game of chance. However, since President George Bush signed the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act, it remains to be seen whether backgammon operators can be prosecuted under the new law. Once again, the law books will need to determine whether backgammon is a game of skill or chance.
Luck sometimes is created by the skill level of the player. A player that risks more and manages to put his game pices in certain positions on the board, will have better rolls for himself than his opponent. Having a minimum amount of knowledge about the game and particular strategies that can be played out, helps go a long way in determining your own luck in a game of backgammon.
After looking at the facts we realize that the backgammon game combines both luck elements and skill elements. How much luck is needed in relation to skill, and vice versa is much harder to determin. Backgammon is different from other online casino games because the throwing of the dice is the only random element in the process. However, the skill factor comes in when you need to decide how to move and react to the numbers on those dice.
